Online Financial Research Sites
The following are examples of information available to investors on
Internet. Please e-mail Dr. Boscia about any additional web sites
that should be added to this list.
SEC Filings
- MSN Money at http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/sec/filing.asp
An investor can search for all SEC filings by a particular company
during the past several years. This site is most useful for
companies that do not provide links to SEC filings on their own way
site.
Industry Information:
- Hoovers’ Industry List at http://www.hoovers.com/free/ind/dir.xhtml
This site gives a complete list of industry categories. Click
on a category link to view a list of companies that participate in
that industry.
- Yahoo Industry Center at http://biz.yahoo.com/ic/
This site gives industry news, lists of top and lowest performing
industries, and current financial ratios such as the P/E ratio, and
ROE for all companies participating in an industry segment.
This is a great site to get benchmarks for evaluating a
company as an investment.
- MSN Money Research Wizard at http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/research/wizards/SRW.asp
This wizard steps a potential investor through the process of
considering an investment in a company. It helps you answer
five important questions concerning the future potential of a
particular stock as an investment. This web site helps to
compare a stock to others in its industry.
Financial Ratios
- MSN Money at http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/home.asp
On the right hand side under quote watch, an investor can enter the
symbol of the company to view a one-year stock price history.
This history is presented in the form of a chart that shows
daily price changes.
- Stock Scout by MSN Money at http://moneycentral.msn.com/investor/StockRating/srsmain.asp
An investor can get a quick analysis of the company along with links
to further information from this web site.
- Morningstar at http://www.morningstar.com/Cover/Stocks.html
Warning star provides several charts under its "Stock"
section. For instance, an investor can see a charge of price
earnings ratios for a stock over a one-year period.
Alternately, an investor can chart their stock’s price against an
average of large, medium, or small-cap companies over a three-year
period. Morningstar also allows graphing of return on equity
and return on assets, and other ratios.
